Students will be introduced to the basics of performance, such as using their faces and bodies to convey emotion. They will learn to perform together as a group, how to improvise and think creatively. They’ll also learn about the language and structure of theater, theater architecture and staging. Finally, they’ll learn to give and receive direction, which is essential in theater but also a useful skill in many other aspects of life.

Katie Gilmartin graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 2014 and from SUNY Purchase in 2017 with a degree in Theater, Performance, and Arts Management. She has taught young performers many aspects of theater, including monologue study, audition preparation, Shakespeare, and improvisation. She has worked in New York City on productions with The New Group, The Anthropologists, and New York Theatre Workshop/Adelphi Residency.
