The St. Johnsbury Players are proud to present playwright David Dudley’s Family Portrait with Goat, as their Fall offering. In contrast to Dudley’s scathing, heartfelt monologue plays, Family Portrait, directed by newcomer Abigail Warhus, is a tender, playful meditation on our struggle to reconcile guilt and accountability, ambition and necessity, and the ongoing search to find joy in the face of the things that haunt us.

After being involved in a fatal collision with a motorcyclist, Gabby (Alice Morrison_, a reporter in her 20s, flees Boston in search of peace and employment in the fictional Rowe, Vermont. Through a combination of wit, desire, and sheer necessity, Gabby convinces the editor of the local paper (Maghan Bourqe) to give her a job. Gabby is assigned to write an inspirational profile on a local woman known for raising goats, Nan (Ursula Malabre-Speicher). But the paper’s editor, Bethany, really wants to know what happened to Nan's husband, Bill, who went missing the week before. The story will force Gabby to confront the ghosts lurking in Rowe’s forest, as well as those that hound her.
