“The U.S.A.’s hottest baroque band.” –Classical Music Magazine (UK)

“Resplendent, exquisite, breathtaking.” -- New York Times

“The Apollo’s Fire sound… early-music straight-tone point-polished to a ravishing, satiny gloss.” -- Boston Globe

Named for the classical god of music and the sun, Apollo’s Fire was founded in 1992 by the award-winning young harpsichordist and conductor Jeannette Sorrell. The group has taken the music world by storm, with its dramatic and energetic renditions that bring new meaning to the classical pieces they perform. From sold out shows at Tanglewood and Carnegie Hall, audiences and critics are left spellbound.

Apollo’s Fire present Vivaldi’s beloved concertos, The Four Seasons, as the revolutionary acts of musical storytelling they were meant to be – bringing Vivaldi’s pictorial descriptions to life. If you thought you knew the Four Seasons, be prepared for surprises. From the bird calls and storms to a barking dog, flies and wasps, drunken peasants, an exhilarating fox hunt with “gunshots,” and more… the story that Vivaldi intended with these pieces is made clear as each concerto is preceded by a quick and polished “tour” of the sound effects to come. The virtuoso musicians of Apollo’s Fire take turns stepping into the spotlight as a different soloist leads each concerto.

The program also features dueling cellists in Vivaldi’s stormy Concerto for Two Cellos. Hear why Jeannette Sorrell calls Vivaldi the “rock n’ roll composer of the 18th century!”

Sorrell envisioned an ensemble dedicated to the baroque ideal that music should evoke the various Affekts or passions in the listeners. Apollo’s Fire is a collection of creative artists who share Sorrell’s passion for drama and rhetoric.
