Artist Talk: Steven Edson, Photographer

Friday, April 7, 5-6pm

Catamount Arts Center Cabaret Room
115 Eastern Ave.
St. Johnsbury, VT

Admission: FREE

Prize-winning photographer Steven Edson will speak about his work and his exhibition All Roads Lead Home, which is on view in Catamount Arts’ Rankin Gallery March 18 through April 29, 2017. On Saturday, April 8 he will conduct a daylong photography workshop from 9 am—5 pm. The artist talk is free and open to the public, but potential students must register for the workshop at www.catamountarts.org/education.

Upon attending the reception for the highly competitive juried show ArtsConnect@CatamountArts, artist Steven Edson learned that he had been designated Second Prize Winner by Juror and Fleming Museum Curator Andrea Rosen. The next day his ride back home to Boston stretched from 3 hours to 10 hours as he stopped to take photographs of the winter landscape in Vermont and northern New Hampshire. As a result, Edson realized the series of images now on view in the Rankin Gallery that perfectly represent his belief that photography is all about “how to look at what might be considered commonplace and extract a visual gem.”

Edson graduated with a BFA from MassArt with a major in SIM (The Studio for Inter-related Media). He exhibits widely and was most recently featured in Art Now: New Directions in Contemporary Photography at the Ann Arbor Art Center in Michigan. Formerly a photography lecturer at the Boston Architectural Center and commercial photographer who integrated video and animation into work for clients, Edson now concentrates his energies full time on fine art photography.
