Vermont’s Medieval Women’s Chorus, Anima and The Early Music Ensemble, The Fyre and Lightning Consort will come together for a concert of medieval and Renaissance music. Anima is a small women’s vocal ensemble based in central Vermont, dedicated to singing and sharing the music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The soaring chants of Hildegard are the heart and soul of our repertoire. Recently we have added more original and Renaissance compositions.

Virtuoso pianist Diane Huling is in demand worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed hundreds of recitals throughout the United States, Canada, South America and Europe, to the highest critical acclaim.

A pianist in the grand Romantic tradition; mature, highly nuanced with a gorgeous sound of "black velvet," Huling mesmerizes her audiences from the first note. Her sound ranges from ethereal to thundering, and is stunning in the depth of emotion and expression. She also creates cutting-edge programs, including music of living composers - even premiering her own award-winning compositions.

Javanese Gamelan is a group - or orchestra - of about 30 instruments ranging from huge gongs to tiny flutes with lots of xylophone and kettle type instruments in between.

Gamelan has a long history in central Vermont, going back to the late 1960’s when Dennis Murphy built the first gamelan anywhere in the world outside of Java at Goddard College. Gamelan Sulukala (named in honor of a Murphy composition) was purchased anonymously for Goddard in the 90’s. Made in Java, it is a full complement of instruments fashioned from bronze and iron. Currently it is being played by a community group of 17 members who range in age from their 20’s to 70’s.

Javanese music is fascinating to listen to; some pieces are slow and dreamy while others are loud and energetic. This concert will feature a wide variety of music ranging from traditional Javanese pieces to contemporary compositions written by Murphy and other contemporary American composers.

The Plainfield Town Hall Opera House is now home to a beautiful baby grand piano. We are dedicating it in memory of Jane Reid Strong, a wonderful community member and pianist whose family (including former Plainfield Select Board chair, Dave Strong) helped acquire it. The concert will feature a varied selection of music performed by area pianists including Diane Huling Reed, Alison Bruce Cerutti, Dan Bruce and Arthur Zorn. Refreshments will be served.
